LABOUR TRY TO BLOCK HOUSING INVESTMENT PDF Print E-mail

It is ironic that Labour politicians complain about a supposed cut in the Scottish housing budget yet in Renfrewshire they attempt to derail £149million of investment in council housing.

Labour falsely claim there has been a cut in the Scottish housing budget, however £1.6billion will still be spent over a three year period as planned – far more than Labour ever achieved.

At our recent budget meeting in Renfrewshire we saw Labour councillors yet again trying to undermine the council’s plan to spend £149million bringing our housing stock up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard by 2015. Labour’s position is to seek short term political gain but create long term problems.

It should come as no surprise to our tenants. We have already seen the disgraced former Labour leader, Wendy Alexander, call for the council to build more houses even though it would be at the cost of not providing our tenants with the improvements they both desire and deserve.
